Cottingham Courses & Qualifications

  • 🕒 17 September until 1 October, 1pm - 4pm

    This 3-week preparation course offers a supportive foundation for those who would like to start working towards a Functional Skills qualification in English.

    This short course will give you the opportunity to meet an English tutor and one of our Learning Experience Advisors, who will work with you to discuss your goals and how we can help you to reach them.

    In the sessions, you’ll take part in various activities that will help you to work out which level of English is right for you and give you a taste of what you can expect to learn on an English course with us. Your advisor will chat with you about any support needs you may have and how we can help you with these, so we can make sure you have everything you need to get started on your next step.

    Our 5-week digital device gifting programme gives you everything you need to thrive in today’s connected world (including the device!).

    Choose a computer and learn to set up and personalise it. Gain confidence using email, apps, and staying safe online. Work towards personal goals like creating CVs, managing budgets, and accessing online services — empowering you to make the most of your computer in everyday life.

    Following the successful completion of the 5-week course, you will be gifted the computer to take away with you, armed with the skills to make the most of your new kit.

  • 🕒 10 and 17 November, 10am - 12.30pm

    *Upon completion of this 5-hour course you’ll receive a £40 voucher

    Let’s Talk Money: Smart Savings is for anyone that needs help managing their money but doesn’t know where to start. This workshop is designed to help you feel good and build confidence as we look at how to shop smart, budget, and save money on everyday outgoings. You don’t need to have any previous experience of maths to join this course, and we will work with you to pick up tips and advice on how to save money and where to go for further support.

  • 🕒 16 October, 9.30am - 12.30pm on Thursdays

    During this four-week course you will identify and develop your employability skills in cookery, helping you to improve your chances and options in the job market.

    In the first three sessions you will work with a cookery tutor to cost out and prepare economic meals to take home and enjoy. You will take part in cookery workshops, follow instructions and take advice from the tutor as you prepare meals in a catering environment.

    During the final session you will work with your tutor to identify the skills you have used during your learning and add them to your C.V.

    The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is an ideal qualification for anyone wishing to work as a teaching assistant in a school. This course is aimed at those who would like to take up their first role in a school, as well as those already employed, but who do not yet have a qualification in supporting teaching and learning.

    This qualification covers a range of essential skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a support role and to understand your role and responsibilities, such as child and young person development, safeguarding, communication, equality and diversity and supporting learning activities.

    To enable you to demonstrate your learning you must be spend a minimum of ten hours per week in school, either in a paid or volunteer capacity.
