Level 2 Understanding Children and Young Peoples’ Mental Health

  • This nationally recognised, Level 2 qualification is designed for learners who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of children and young people’s mental health, including depression and anxiety, the legislation and guidance surrounding mental health, risk factors that may affect mental well-being and how to build resilience against these, and the impact of mental health concerns may have on young people.

  • On the course you will learn:

    • The concept and prevalence of mental health problems in children and young people;

    • Legislation and guidance that applies to children and young people’s mental health;

    • How society views mental health;

    • The risk factors that affect mental health;

    • The potential effects of puberty and developmental changes on the mental health of children and young people;

    • How abuse or bullying may affect the mental health of a child or young person;

    • Behaviour that is associated with mental health concerns in children and young people;

    • Understand stress, anxiety and depression in children and young people;

    • The impact mental health concerns can have on children and young people and others;

    • The importance of being diagnosed with a mental health problem;

    • Person-centred approaches to supporting children and young people with mental health concerns;

    • How to promote mental well-being;

    • Services and treatment involved with children and young people’s mental health.

  • You must have at least a Level 2 qualification in English; you will be given an appointment to see one of our Learner Experience Advisers, who will give you more information about the course and check that this is the right option for you.

    As this is an elearning course, you will need to ensure that you are able to connect to the internet, have a web browser (e.g. Google chrome, Microsoft Edge), and are able to follow the links to take part in the virtual activities. This will include having some basic computer skills, including being able to use a keyboard and a mouse.

    You will need access to the EQUAL platform; as soon as you have signed and returned your learner agreement, you will be sent login details.

  • You will study completely online and work at your own pace, benefiting from access to online content, including resources such as interactive case studies, videos and study notes.

Level 2 Awareness of Mental Health Problems

  • Would you like to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of mental health issues? Employers – in particular those in the health and social care sector – are increasingly interested in their staff having a sound understanding of a range of mental health problems, so having a qualification in mental health can be a good way to boost your CV.

  • You'll learn about what is meant by mental health as a general term, then you’ll discover more about specific mental health conditions, and how you can better work or interact with people with those conditions.

  • You will learn about:

    The legal frameworks which ensure high quality care is provided.

    The causes, effects on individuals and their daily lives and ways in which the following conditions can be managed:

    • Sstress

    • Anxiety

    • Phobias

    • Depression

    • Post natal depression

    • Bipolar disorder

    • Schizophrenia

    • Dementia

    • Eating disorders

    • ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

    • OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)

    • PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder)

Level 2 Awareness of Bullying in Children and Young people

  • We know that bullying affects children and young people across many settings - at school, in childcare, local communities and online. It is reported that 40% of all young people aged 11 to 16 now experience bullying, with 6% said to experience bullying daily.

    This course will provide you with the skills needed to help identify, and then address, bullying among children and young people.

  • This free eLearning course will provide you with an understanding of the principles of bullying, how to identify bullying in children, the factors that can create a ‘bully’, and how you can support young people who are experiencing bullying.

  • You will learn about:

    • The principles of bullying

    • How to recognise bullying in children and young people

    • The action to be taken when a child and young person is being bullied

    • Government guidelines for bullying.

  • This course is split into six manageable units:

    • Unit 1: Explore principles of healthy eating

    • Unit 2: Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals

    • Unit 3: Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet

    • Unit 4: The principles of weight management

    • Unit 5: Understanding eating disorders

    • Unit 6: Principles of food safety for the home environment

Level 2 Principles of Team Leading

  • If you’d like to pursue a career in team leading or would like to progress within your current employment, then this Level 2 course will provide you with knowledge and understanding of a range of team leading principles and you’ll also gain a qualification to add to your CV.

  • On this course you’ll learn about different kinds of business structures in the public, private and voluntary sectors and the range and purpose of leadership opportunities that are available within these. You’ll learn what team leading is and what it involves, from managing a team’s workload to motivating team members, as well understanding how different types of leadership can impact a team’s performance. You’ll also learn about different kinds of verbal and written communication methods in the workplace, from preparing for and participating in meetings to ensuring accuracy in documentation and how communication varies depending on the audience.

  • This course is made up of a total of eight units; there are three mandatory units and you may choose your remaining five units from the range below.

    For your three mandatory units you’ll develop your understanding of:

    • The principles of team leading

    • Business environments and structures

    • Communicating work-related information.

    You’ll then be able to build your knowledge in five of the following areas:

    • Managing performance and conflict in the workplace

    • Understanding customers

    • Delivering customer service and resolving problems

    • Principles of equality and diversity in the workplace

    • Developing working relationships with colleagues

    • Health and safety procedures in the workplace

    • Developing and delivering a presentation

    • Coaching in the workplace

    • Mentoring others

    • Understanding personal development.
